The Severn Project at Bridgnorth

The River Inspectors arrived in Bridgnorth on Wednesday 22 August, and staged walkabout performances throughout the streets of Bridgnorth in preparation for a huge showdown with the Sturgeon Hunter in Severn Park.

Audiences crowded the Quayside at 8pm on Saturday night before processing along the River Path to Severn Park.

Ambient music from local community groups, including a choir, and braziers of fire edged the path heralding the beginning of the spectacular Sturgeon Moon performance. Crowds followed the action across six stages, participating with cheers and boos as the River Inspectors duelled with the Sturgeon Hunter for possession of the Sturgeon. Children and adults alike delighted as large sprays of water vanquished the Countess and minions.

Celebratory fireworks by Pa Boom and 30 foot high jets of water by Avanti Display sprayed over the central stage and, as the audience’s cheers turned to applause, a dramatic river craft decorated with fire and light passed slowly down the river and out into the night.

One audience member said: “It’s been an amazing experience. In fact, the experience of a lifetime. Absolutely brilliant! We’ve been here all day, we watched it from the quayside this morning and we watched all the fireworks and the fun and the play tonight and it was incredible. Well done Shropshire County Council!”
