About the Project

A partnership of local authorities led by Shropshire County Council and Desperate Men are delighted to introduce the Severn Project, an ambitious and exciting series of Street Arts events and performances along the River Severn.

This three year project will see the development of creative performances, cultural engagement and awareness of the river and its relationship to the communities who live work and visit the towns and villages by the river. Sturgeon Moon, the 2007 event programme, takes place in Gloucester, Upton upon Severn, Worcester, Bewdley, Bridgnorth and Ironbridge in August and September. The three year development will also see the project working with communities at the source of the River in Powys, Wales and Bristol City as the river joins the sea.

Artistic Programme

The River Inspectors are coming! Along the length of the Severn, meet and talk with characters and individuals with important links to the river and its history, including: Captain Webb, Diver Lambert, Emma Darwin and Hannah Snell as they record people’s experiences and memories of the river. With them comes the legendary sturgeon of the Severn, a miraculous fish bearing golden eggs, which they must release into the river in order for it to lay its precious eggs.
