Severn Bore Art Film Project Spring 2010 – come and take part!

Everyone is invited to come and see the Severn Bore, one of the most spectacular tidal bores in the world, and to take part in the filming of “To the River”, an art work about the bore by the artist Sophy Rickett. She works with photography and video installation to explore moments involving the encounter between people and nature, and the implicit human desire to connect with or experience a sense of the ‘sublime’.

Using specially installed floodlights and microphones the wave will be both filmed and recorded at night - along with the crowds of people that gather to watch the wave. The material generated over six nights of filming and recording will form the basis of an installation which will seek to evoke a sense of the relationship between the wave, its audience, and its wider social context.

Filming will take place at the Severn Bore Inn’s car park, Main Road, Minsterworth, Gloucestershire GL2 8JX – come and be part of the Severn Bore experience at the following times:

QUEST – seven journeys through the landscapes of the South West

WirewalkerSevern Project 2009 has been an award winning success – opening the way with fresh opportunities to get involved. Quest is a region-wide programme for the Cultural Olympiad, led by Desperate Men and Cirque Bijou. Their performance journey through the South West in 2012 will be the culmination of a series of individual and community Quest projects.

The Severn Project in Gloucestershire provided just one of the opportunities to engage with the Quest’s central creative theme of What’s YOUR Quest? In Tewkesbury, Kwabana Lindsay thrilled a spell-bound audience as he successfully completed his own personal Quest to make a high wire walk across the river.
